They had a good leader, Rommel, but when they saw, that the defeat was unevadable, they replaced him, so that there is no shame on one of germanys army idols of that time.

The soldiers themselved served, if not captured, on other fronts, so in my opinion one can't say, that those had been the best etc., especially not, because the war was still young at that time.
